Nocturne, presented as a part of The Knowledge, an exhibition coinciding with the Venice Biennial, was a temporary space for spontaneous communities to engage in social, cultural and intellectual exchange.  During the day, the space—a centuries-old Venetian villa—functioned as a multi-use gallery, performance space, and a kind of lounge where artists, curators and viewers could take part in relaxed discussions and presentations—this opened up an informal space for the circulation of ideas. People drawn to the space from the temporary community around the Venice Biennial, including international artists as well as passers-by, shared work and played music without the pressure of the institutional standards of their official exhibitions.  At night, the atmosphere lighened even futher: a bar, constructed just for Nocturne, became the focus of the gathering, where people could drink, dance, and listen to live performance. The entertainment ranged from rock bands to impromptu opera singers, giving each night a unique character
